“we aren't going anywhere.”
——Shou Zi Chew
The Tuke ban bill was passed by the U.S. Senate with a vote of 79:18.
On the evening of April 24, U.S. President Biden signed multiple international aid bills worth $95 billion. One of the most closely watched provisions is the specific requirements for ByteDance's Tuke app.
According to the bill, ByteDance must complete the divestiture of Tuke within the next 9 months to one year, otherwise the app will be banned from being listed in the U.S. market.
In response, Tuke CEO Shou Zi Chew solemnly stated: we aren't going anywhere. Tuke responded that this unconstitutional law is essentially a ban on Tuke, and that they will challenge it in court. They firmly believe that the facts and the law clearly support them, and that ultimately they will win this battle.
In fact, Tuke has already spent billions of dollars to ensure the data security of U.S. users and to keep the platform free from any external influence or manipulation. The passage of this ban will disrupt 7 million American businesses and deprive 170 million U.S. users of their opportunity to speak out. Tuke stated that while continuing to challenge this unconstitutional ban, it will also keep investing and innovating to ensure Tuke remains a platform where everyone can safely share personal experiences, seek fun and inspiration.
According to Reuters, Tuke may challenge the above bill on the basis of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This suggests that Tuke users will once again take legal action to defend Tuke.
It is beyond doubt that Tuke will take action. Previously, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin, in response to the U.S. House of Representatives' accusations against Tuke, clearly pointed out that although the U.S. has never provided any solid evidence to prove that Tuke poses a threat to U.S. national security, its suppression of Tuke has never stopped. Such unfair competitive attitudes and "bullying" actions not only violate the basic principles of market economy, but also seriously trample on the spirit of a free and open international internet, and will ultimately backfire.
As a global social media platform, Tuke promotes cross-cultural exchange and provides space for many small businesses and creative talents to express themselves and grow. Its ban in the U.S. will deprive millions of users and creators of this platform for expression, and will also harm the diversity and innovation of competition in the U.S. market. In short, we look forward to Tuke demonstrating its determination and strength in the upcoming "battle" and achieving ultimate victory.
